Shielding Hazards along the Road Corridor

RAMSHIELD® is Australia's leading manufacturer of Guardrails & Road Safety Barriers

Road Safety Barriers

Providing a forgiving roadside environment reduces the consequences for vehicles leaving the safe, travelled way. Hazards such as trees, utility poles and embankments are often located adjacent to roadways and relocating them is often impractical. In these instances, shielding with a longitudinal RamShield® safety barrier is the most appropriate solution.

Road Safety Barrier Products

RamShield W-Beam

RamShield® W-Beam achieves a controlled redirection of errant vehicles by releasing the w-beam rail from the post at an optimal load to retain rail height, limit dynamic deflection and to allow the post to collapse without tripping the vehicle.

RamShield High Containment

RamShield® HC, featuring thrie-beam guardrail is a stronger version of the w-beam guardrail systems. The additional corrugation in the rail combined with the higher mounting height, stiffens the barrier and improves its ability to contain larger vehicles.

RamShield Edge

RamShield® Edge is an engineered solution, designed for attachment to RamShield® High Containment for installations on the hinge point of weak batters. RamShield® Edge uses an innovative below-ground pin to restrain lateral movement of the guardrail post, allowing the post to yield by bending proximate to ground level, replicating post performance in flat, well-compacted terrain.

RamShield Median

RamShield® Median features strong section C-posts supporting back-to-back w-beam, providing safe vehicle containment and redirection when impacted from either side of the system.

RamShield Low Deflection

RamShield® Low Deflection combines the sectional strength of C-posts with w-beam to reduces the clearance required between barrier and hazard, an important design consideration for installation on narrow formations.

RamShield Transition

The RamShield® Transition provides a smooth, snag-free connection between steel guardrail barriers and rigid barriers, such as at bridge parapets. The RamShield® Transition gradually increases stiffness of the safety barrier system reducing the potential for vehicle pocketing.

RocketBloc

RocketBloc

RocketBloc™ achieves a controlled redirection of errant vehicles by regulating the force to release the rail throughout the impact zone, limiting dynamic deflection and to allow the C-post to collapse without tripping the vehicle.

BikerShield Motorcycle Barrier

BikerShield™ Motorcycle Protection Barrier provides safe rider containment and redirection through the combination of spring mounting brackets and lightweight, corrugated panels. The spring brackets attach directly to the guardrail beam mid-span between posts and absorb the impact energy of the sliding rider.

MSKT End Terminal

The MASH Compliant Sequential Kinking Guardrail End Terminal (MSKT) is an energy-absorbing, tangential end terminal, designed to minimise the severity of impacts occurring at the end of the safety barrier system.

Road Safety Barriers FAQ’s

Providing a forgiving roadside environment reduces the consequences for vehicles leaving the safe, travelled way. Hazards such as trees, utility poles, culverts and embankments are often located adjacent to roadways and relocating them is often impractical. In these instances, shielding with a longitudinal road safety barrier is the most appropriate solution.

RamShield® Road Safety Barriers achieve a controlled redirection of errant vehicles by releasing the rail from the post at an optimal load to retain rail height, limit dynamic deflection and to allow the post to collapse without tripping the vehicle.

The separation of the rail from the post is achieved by a release tab incorporated into the post. The tab regulates the forces requires to release the rail during a vehicle collison.

The working mechanism of RamShield® is a patented concept designed and developed by Safe Direction. The concept is the latest innovation in guardrail design and sets a new benchmark in simplicity and performance.

Yes, the range of RamShield® Road Safety Barriers are full-scale crash tested to evaluate compliance with MASH.

The MASH specification is an update to and supersedes NCHRP Report 350 for the purposes of evaluating new safety hardware devices.

MASH presents uniform guidelines for crash testing permanent and temporary highway safety features and recommends evaluation criteria to assess test results.

MASH considers real-life crash data, changes to the vehicle fleet and in-service performance in developing evaluation criteria.

All posts used in the assembly of the various RamShield® Road safety Barriers are driven directly into the ground and do not require concrete. The RamShield® posts have been designed to collapse upon impact yielding proximate to the ground surface.

Yes, the assembly of RamShield® uses standard fasteners. The system is installed using standard 2.7mm (12 gauge) AASHTO w-beam or thrie-beam rail sections.
