Rapid Guardrail Replacement
During the 2019-2020 bushfire season, fires burned 18.6 million hectares in NSW, destroyed over 5,900 buildings, and sadly took 34 lives. Critical transport routes, the Kings and Princes Highways, were badly damaged and needed urgent road network repairs to support recovery and the movement of supplies and visitors.
Project Challenges
The recovery effort required barrier systems that could:
✔️ Replace damaged guardrails and end terminals
✔️ Restore access along high-volume transport routes
✔️ Be installed quickly to minimize roadside exposure for workers
✔️ Meet MASH compliance standards for roadside safety
Solution and Outcomes
RamShield® Guardrail was supplied with MSKT end terminals to replace the barriers quickly. The MSKT terminal is an energy-absorbing, tangential end system that reduces impact severity and can be connected to existing or new RamShield® installations without a transition.
This delivered:
✔️ Rapid restoration of critical highways for recovery efforts
✔️ MASH-compliant barriers for motorists and emergency vehicles
✔️ Reduced installation time and roadside exposure for workers
✔️ A durable, low-maintenance safety solution for damaged infrastructure
